چکیده

Introduction The strip line element with meanders has proven its capability for head and body imaging at 7 Tesla due to its good decoupling and penetration depth [1, 2]. Previously presented Tx/Rx arrays consisting of elements with central feeding [1, 2, 3] do not support pMRI acceleration in the direction parallel to the strips of the elements. To overcome this drawback, each branch of the element can be used as a separate receiver coil while keeping the advantages of the combined element during transmission. An 8-ch transmit / 16-ch receive flexible body coil was built and tested in phantom measurements and in vivo and compared to an array of the same dimensions but with conventional strip line elements with meanders.

Improved B1+ field using a 16-channel Transmit Head Array and an 8-channel pTx System at 7T

INTRODUCTION At 7T, transmit coil arrays using parallel transmit (pTx) [1] systems enable techniques to substantially improve B1 transmit fields. Receive coil arrays offer enhanced sensitivity and parallel imaging performance. However, significant challenges in ultra high field systems are still remaining for the design and implementation of RFcoils for dedicated transmit channels and their int...

Comprehensive numerical study of 7T transmit-only, receive-only array coils

Purpose: The Nova 7 T RF coil, which has single-channel transmission (TX) [1] and 24 or 32 channel reception (RX) [2,3] (Nova Medical, Wilmington, MA) is notable for its excellent signal to noise (SNR) performance. The coil designers have demonstrated that separate dedicated coils for transmission and reception (TX-only, RX-only) perform better than a combined-element transceiver coil. One disa...

Human Brain Imaging at 9.4 Tesla Using a Combination of Traveling Wave Excitation with a 15-channel Receive-only Array

Introduction The combination of a circularly polarized (CP) volume coil for spin excitation with a multi-channel receive-only array is a successful setup for routine human brain imaging at 7 Tesla. For reception, the use of multiple surface coils is important for a high SNR and for the utilization of parallel imaging techniques. For transmission, the main strength of the CP coil is the reasonab...

Signal-to-noise ratio and parallel imaging performance of a 16-channel receive-only brain coil array at 3.0 Tesla.

The performance of a 16-channel receive-only RF coil for brain imaging at 3.0 Tesla was investigated using a custom-built 16-channel receiver. Both the image signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and the noise amplification (g-factor) in sensitivity-encoding (SENSE) parallel imaging applications were quantitatively evaluated. Furthermore, the performance was compared with that of hypothetical coils with ...
